Meet Dr. Peter Chan

I’m a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience working with individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds and lifestyles. I have been working with clients for over 10 years, providing treatment to individuals coping with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship problems, communication difficulties, stress, career and work-related issues, issues of sexuality, coming out, self-esteem, life transitions, and acculturation issues. I also have expertise working with members of the LGBTQ community and the Asian community.

In my years of working with clients, I find that culture plays a vital role in how we view the world and interact with the people in our lives. However, it is often overlooked when we try to gain insight into our difficulties. I believe it is important to listen closely to my clients’ stories while bearing in mind the contexts of their narratives in order to fully appreciate their experiences as a whole. I enjoy working with my clients collaboratively to optimize their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

The way I work with my clients is interpersonal, caring, genuine, and nonjudgmental. I feel that every individual is unique and the struggles they encounter cannot be treated with a one-size-fit-all approach. I prefer to focus on the difficulties an individual is having rather than considering a person as being sick. Therefore, the journey I take with each client is individualized and tailored to the needs of that individual as I aim to create an authentic space where my clients can feel free to explore and work towards change, self-discovery, and improved relationships.
